PPKGBK Calls SUGBK Grass Conditions Good Ahead Of The Indonesian National Team Match

PPKGBK said that the SUGBK grass was in good condition ahead of the Indonesian national team match (Instagram/@persija).

JAKARTA - The Bung Karno Gelora Complex Management Center (PPKGBK) said that the condition of the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) field remained good after being used for concert activities on May 18, 2024.

SUGBK is used for the concert of the idol group from South Korea, NCT Dream. The concert is estimated to be attended by around 40,000 spectators.

There was anxiety that the SUGBK field conditions would be disrupted by the concert activities.

Moreover, the Indonesian national team will play the second round of Group F of the 2026 World Cup Qualification in the Asian Zone.

The Garuda squad will face Iraq on June 6, 2024, and the Philippines on June 11, 2024.

PPKGBK emphasized that the field conditions remained good, although visually there were marks. The entire grass area of the SUGBK field is protected during the concert and uses the best international standard grass cover.

The General Director of PPKGBK, Hadi Sulistia, said that his party continues to be committed to maintaining field quality as a form of support for national sports achievements.

"As a form of management support for national sports achievements in the eyes of the world, we will continue to strive and be fully committed to maintaining the quality of the SUGBK venue until it reaches ideal conditions according to the expected standards," Hadi said as quoted by Antara.

Regarding the field closure issue, PPKGBK explained that after the concert activities, the closing would be reopened immediately. After the closing was opened, the grass management team immediately carried out intensive care according to the operating standards applied.

Stages for concert activities were also built off the field so that they did not burden the grass.

PPKGBK also manages SUGBK grass with direct communication and input from PSSI, as well as professional grass expert support. The maintenance process is carried out in very detail, including checking leaf color, acidity level, fertilization, watering, to potential pests and diseases.

According to PPKGBK, based on PSSI verification before the NCT Dream concert, the grass condition was close to 80 percent better than during the 2026 World Cup Qualification match in March 2024.

Of the various efforts and improvements that have been made, PPKGBK hopes that grass conditions will soon reach around 80 percent in the next week. The maintenance process itself will continue for 24 hours every day to achieve ideal conditions.
