Controversial Athlete OJ Simpson Dies At The Age Of 76 Due To Cancer

JAKARTA Former very famous football athlete, OJ Simpson, died at the age of 76 in Washington, Thursday 11 April 2024. Simpson died after a long struggle with prostate cancer.

Simpson became very famous in the world for alleged murder of his ex-wife, who was never proven in court in 1994. Simpson is accused of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown and her friend, Ronald Goldman by being stabbed in Los Angeles.

Simpson's trial was held for months, and by the United States media at the time was dubbed the 'trial of this century'. The former NFL star trial was broadcast on television around the world, and managed to attract public attention.

Simpson's negligence in the murder charges sparked divisions among the citizens of the United States and the world. Some people accuse Simpson of bribing and lying so as to escape, while others think the sports celebrity nicknamed The Juice is just a racist police victim. Simpson is black, while Nicole Brown is white.

"I don't think most Americans believe I did. I got thousands of letters and telegrams from people who supported me," Simpson told The New York Times in 1995 a week after a court in Los Angeles acquitted him of murder charges.

Years after the case passed, debates still occurred. People argue about domestic violence, racism, gender, justice for celebrities, to violence by the United States police.

Simpson was eventually imprisoned, but for different cases. In 2008 he was proven to have committed armed robbery and kidnappings he carried out in Las Vegas. For this case, Simpson was sentenced to nine years in prison.
