Defeated By Karen Khachanov, Daniil Medvedev Expelled From Monte Carlo Masters

JAKARTA - Daniil Medvedev was eliminated by Karen Khachanov in the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters tournament on Wednesday, with a score of 3-6, 5-7.

Medvedev was awarded a penalty at the start of the last game after arguing with referee Carlos Bernades. He was later also involved in hot discussions with tournament supervisors, AFP reported.

The world number four has received a warning after slamming his racket when he made a double fault, and that left Khachanov only one game adrift of victory.

Medvedev dongkol because Khachanov's foreplay was not declared out on the rally which made Khachanov get two break points at 5-5.

The presence of physiotherapists to treat what looks like bleeding in the next game makes Medvedev even more annoyed. He then shouted at the referee, "Did I call physiotherapist?"

Medvedev then asked for the presence of supervisors who would be responsible for these decisions.

The television replay showed a questionable blow from Khachanov landing wide from the pitch.

"This is the second day in a row. Wake up my friends, open your eyes. Do something. It's out," Medvedev said.

"Yesterday the ball came out, but it was said to come in. Who will take action. The ball is there. Who will be responsible?" he added.

Khachanov and Medvedev took turns breaking in the first four games, before Khachanov took 4-3 lead to win the first set.

In the second set, Khachanov saved a set of points at 5-4 before Medvedev's emotions exploded in the next game, he failed to do both serve, and then lost.

Khachanov will face Alexander Zverev or Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals played on Friday.
