JAKARTA - Megawati Hanggetri Pertiwi's journey with the Redmen volleyball team has ended. He has just been seen going home to his hometown in Jember Regency, East Java.

His arrival in Jember was welcomed by Regent Hendy Siswanto at Pendapa Wahyawibagraha on Sunday, April 7.

The athlete, who is familiarly called Mega, joined club Jung Kwan Jang Redmen, nicknamed Megatron because of his very strong smash and shining achievements in the Korean Volleyball League.

"Megatron is one of the strong figures in the film Transformers. Well, because of my strong spike, I was nicknamed Megatron," said Hendy as quoted by Antara.

The youngest three siblings from the couple Siti Muhanah and Maksum (deceased) also told how different lives and volleyball in Korea and Indonesia are.

"It was cooler there and the training was harder, so that by diligently practicing and following the direction of the coach, he could play very well," he said.

Despite being successful as a volleyball player in Korea, Mega said that Indonesia, especially Jember Regency, was the most missed place.

"I like eating and exercising, when I come home I want to eat a lot of things, especially mother's cooking," said the alumnus of SD Jember Kidul and SMPN 01 Jember.

Mega also has a long history before competing in Korea, her career began when she played at the Bank Jatim Club, Proliga 2016/2017, then Megawati was looked at by Jakarta Pertamina and entered the Indonesian Women's Volleyball National Team for the 2017 SEA Games. Her highest achievement in the Proliga was runner-up with Jakarta Pertamina.

Lebih dari itu, ia juga tercatat pernah memperkuat sejumlah klub luar negeri seperti klub Thailand Supreme Chonburi E Tech dan klub Vietnam Ha Phu Thanh Hoa.

When joining Redmen in the 2023/2024 season, Megawati was immediately in the spotlight because she was chosen twice to be the most variable player (MVP) in two matches, winning the MVP award for the first round of the Korean Volleyball League.

The presence of Mega and her family to pendapa was warmly welcomed by the Regent of Jember Hendy Siswanto with his wife and was proud of the achievements made by the daughter of the native Jember region who was very talented.

"Mbak Mega's presence is a motivation for Jember residents, especially in the field of volleyball. However, not only that, Mega is expected to be a motivation for Jember residents in other fields," he said.

He hopes that Jember's sports, especially volleyball, will develop and be able to produce talented athletes such as Megawati, including in other fields, so that Jember can progress and give birth to talented people.
