Nagelsmann Warns Xabi Alonso Who Chooses Bayern Munich Over Liverpool

JAKARTA - Bayer Leverkusen coach, Xabi Alonso, seems to be rejecting Liverpool and choosing to accept Bayern Munich's offer. Alonso's choice received a warning from Germany's national team coach Julian Nagelsmann.

There has been no official statement from Alonso. However, the former Spanish national team midfielder reportedly has rejected Liverpool's offer.

The reason Alonso, who once defended the Reds, admitted that he was not ready to replace Jurgen Klopp.

If finally leaving Leverkusen, the 42-year-old coach prefers Bayern's offer to part ways with Thomas Tuchel at the end of this season.

However, Nagelsmann warned Alonso to accept Liverpool's offer rather than Bayern.

According to him, Premier League clubs, such as Liverpool and Manchester City, tend to give managers time to build teams before reaping achievements.

The same thing happened to Sir Alex Ferguson who also got up to four years before the agenda with Manchester United.

"When signing a contract with Bayern, I put forward the conditions that I will make changes," said Nagelsmann, who handled Bayern from 2021 to 2023.

However, he has not had time to make changes, Nagelsmann has been fired. Interestingly, he was dismissed just because Bayern lost 1-2 against Bayer Leverkusen.

The notice of dismissal was made while Nagelsmann was on vacation skiing in Austria. Meanwhile, he has brought Bayern to win the Bundesliga and the German Super Cup or DFL Super Cup twice.

"There are a number of clubs that give managers time and opportunity. Liverpool have to wait five years before Jurgen Klopp brings the team to win."

"Pep Guardiola brought Manchester City to Champions League champions after seven years," said Nagelsmann.

"On the other hand, coaches at Bayern have never been given time to build a team," he said.

According to Nagelsmann, this condition occurred in Bayern, whoever the coach was. Tuchel himself already had to part ways with Bayern following a successive defeat, including when Alonso's men were slaughtered, Leverkusen, with a big score of 0-3.

"What is conveyed to the outside world about dismissal is not in accordance with reality. However, that is what happens in football. That will not change for the next 30 years," said Nagelsmann, who was assigned to bring Germany to the championship at Euro 2024.

Alonso was actually offered Liverpool to replace Klopp who will step down at the end of this season. However, he refused on the grounds that his family was comfortable staying in Germany.
