Wayne Rooney Receives Boxing Duel Offer

JAKARTA - A video showing Wayne Rooney lying in the kitchen wearing a boxing sarong was widely circulated. The caption of the video footage mentions the former Manchester United player KO (knockout).

Apparently, the video is an old recording, 2015 to be precise, when Rooney was still in Manchester United uniform.

So, the incident started with Rooney's ridiculous action under the influence of alcohol. He invited Phil Bardsley who was playing at his house to fight.

Bardsley responded by throwing a heavy blow right into Rooney's face. Suddenly, the blow made the former Red Devils captain collapse.

"It happened at his house. We came out to watch several Super Sunday games and played, maybe too much of what we should have done to be honest."

"However, the boys are still boys. It was Sunday afternoon, we were a little carried away. We finally returned to Wayne's house, arguing for a while, one thing led to another, and the next minute there was blood everywhere, in the kitchen, and all kinds of things."

"The video was widespread and it's a bit embarrassing considering he was at United at the time as captain and I was at Stoke (City)."

"It was a bit embarrassing at the time, but that's how it is. This is one of the things you may have drank too much (alcoholics)."

"We all drank a few times. So, that's one of them, the timing is right, to be honest my jab is quite accurate," Bardsley told Talksport.

The moment in the video had reached the hands of Louis van Gaal, who at that time was Manchester United's manager.

As a result of his actions, Rooney got into serious trouble with the Dutch manager.

Apart from that, Rooney KO's video is now being discussed again. In fact, one of the boxing promoters, Misfits Boxing, was attracted to bringing Rooney really into the boxing ring for a charity duel.

Bardsley, who was appointed by Misfits Boxing, responded happily to the news as a candidate against Rooney.

"Yes, maybe. Of course, donating to our preferred charity and so on, it will be a little fun. Why not?"

"I think he obviously has a much bigger name than me, but he's definitely going to sell the arena, I'm sure of that," Bardsley said.

Not only charity fights, Misfits Boxing even has the intention to really change Rooney's career from football to boxing.

However, until now Wazza, Wayne Rooney's nickname, has not received the Misfits Boxing proposal.

When he was interviewed by The Overlap, Rooney insisted he still wanted to return to football.

"They (Misfits Boxing) have contacted and asked questions, but I think right now I want to focus on returning to the world of management."

"There are some, it's clear that Misfits has participated, and that's news everywhere."

"However, I want to return to the world of management, that's my focus," Rooney said.

As is known, Wayne Rooney is continuing his football career as a manager. He has led Derby County in 2020-2022.

The former Everton player then headed DC United for a season before moving to Birmingham City. However, his career with the English club was short.

Rooney entered in October 2023 and was sacked by Birmingham in early January 2024.

Meanwhile, Bardsley is still looking forward to a duel with Rooney in the boxing ring while remembering the jokes of their friendship in the past.
