Jurgen Klopp's Moment To Tell Wife About Departing Liverpool, Using Sport Car Analogies

JAKARTA - No wind, no rain, Jurgen Klopp suddenly announced his resignation from Liverpool's manager seat on Friday, January 26, 2024.

The German manager will sign Anfield after this season's run.

After the announcement, Klopp was confused about how to tell his wife, Ulla Sandrock, about the decision in his career.

He found the right analogy. Luckily, he was able to find a way to describe his decision.

"I've tried to describe it. I have to explain it to Ulla clearly."

"I tried to explain it in analogy to sports cars. Not the best (sports car), but quite good, still able to go 160, 170, 180 km/hour. I was the only one who saw the tank meter (gasoline) going down."

"The outside world doesn't see that, it's good. So, you go until as long as we have to go, but then you need to rest. In this case, you need to go to a gas station."

"That's what I have to do, but no one has to worry until the end of this season. I know that I will be fine until then," Klopp said as quoted by The Sun.

The analogy is brilliant. According to Klopp, after his explanation through the analogy of sports cars, Ulla was able to fully understand her husband's decision.

"I have to explain, of course I have to explain. It's not like, 'Oh, thank you'. You can't get me wrong. Not at all."

"He asked me the reason. I explained it as I explain it now to you. Maybe in some personal details, but besides that, everything is very similar."

"Obviously, Ulla wanted me to do well and well. When she realized that I was very clear about it, she knew I didn't take this kind of thing lightly. She was happy for me. That I was happy with her decision. That's the truth," said the 56-year-old coach.

In fact, Klopp had intended to leave in 2022. However, after discussing with his wife, he finally extended his contract at Anfield for another season until the end of the 2023 season.

Ulla did have a big influence on any of Klopp's decisions, particularly regarding the extension of the contract at Liverpool at that time.

Now, Klopp is realizing his intention in 2022 to leave Anfield. The decision was welcomed positively by his wife.

Meanwhile, regarding where Klopp will dock next, it is clear he will no longer be in England.

There are signs that he will return to the team at the beginning of next season. Regarding which team and when it's time, only Klopp knows.

"If you ask me, 'Are you going to work as a manager again?' Now I will answer no."

"However, I don't know for sure what it's like because I've never had that situation (not coaching the team). All I know for sure, I'll never be 100 percent in charge of another club in England other than Liverpool. That's impossible."

"My love for this club, my respect for society is too great. I can't. I can't think about it for a second. There's no chance."

"This (Liverpool) is part of my life. We are part of the family. We feel at home here."

"The rest, am I going to work again? Of course. I know myself. I can't just sit still. I'll look for anything else that might be done."

"My situation doesn't manage clubs or countries for at least a year, it's impossible. I can't do that and I don't want to. That's all," Klopp said.

Jurgen Klopp spent eight and a half years at Anfield. He has brought seven major trophies so far, including the Champions League and the Premier League, to Liverpool's storefront.
