The List Of Indonesian National Team Players For The 2023 Asian Cup Is Not Final, 26 Registered Names Can Still Change

The list of Indonesian national team players in the 2023 Asian Cup can still change (doc. PSSI).

JAKARTA - The Qatar 2023 Asian Cup teams have indeed deposited 26 names of players to AFC on the squad list. However, the list is still not final and can still change a maximum of six hours before the first match.

AFC regulations do say so. Looking at Article 26 Point 6 in the regulation, it is explained that substitutes can appear as long as previously they have received accreditation or approval from the AFC.

This means that changes to the list of 26 players are still allowed as long as the names of the players in the reshuffle have entered the entry by name.

Previously, it was known that the Indonesian national team registered 50 players in entry by name. In its development, the coach of the Garuda Squad, Shin Tae-yong, has narrowed to 28 names.

Well, as many as 28 names were then brought to a training camp (TC) in Turkey since December 23, 2023.

The latest information is that the Indonesian national team must register 26 players on the AFC requested squad list. In other words, there were two players in the training camp who were not included in the list.

The two names in question are Adam Alis and Arkhan Fikri. However, both of them still have the opportunity to enter the final list.

Not surprisingly, Adam and Arkhan are still undergoing training camps in Turkey and will be taken to Qatar.

The plan is for Shin Tae-yong to ensure the final squad is on January 10, 2024, although he still has time to determine the cast list until at least January 14, 2024.

However, Shin Tae-yong wants to have a clear picture of his squad the day after his last test against Iran in Qatar.

"Indeed, 26 players (by AFC) have been released, but 28 will be brought to Doha," said Shin Tae-yong.

"So, the certainty will be determined on January 10 after the match against Iran. Because in terms of regulations, six hours before the match starts, players can also be replaced," said Shin Tae-yong.

Meanwhile, the regulation on the 26-player final list in the 2023 Asian Cup is new. Previously, AFC regulations said they could only bring 23 players to the 2023 Asian Cup.

However, the AFC changed the regulation after accepting proposals from the coaches after the Qatar 2022 World Cup. In the world's most popular football event, each team can register 26 players.

The Indonesian national team will leave for Qatar after a second trial against Libya on Friday, January 5, 2024. They will return to undergo TC there.

In addition, the Garuda Squad still has its last test agenda against Iran on January 9, 2024.

The Indonesian national team is in Group D of the 2023 Asian Cup which will take place on January 12-10 February 2024. Shin Tae-yong's team will face Japan, Iraq, and Vietnam.

In the inaugural match in the 2023 Asian Cup, the Indonesian national team will face Iraq on January 15, 2024. Then, they met Vietnam on January 19, 2024 and finally faced Japan January 24, 2024.
