Ragnar Oratmangoen's Story About The Invitation For Naturalization

JAKARTA - Ragnar Oratmangoen is one of the footballers who is said to be on the naturalization list for the Indonesian national team. The player told that the process was not clear.

In an interview with Dutch media, Leeuwarder Courant, Ragnar said PSSI had shown interest in naturalizing itself two years ago, but at that time there was still no certainty.

Previously, it was also known that during the 2023 U-17 World Cup, Ragnar Oratmangoen also had time to come to Indonesia and meet with the Chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir.

Two years ago I met someone in the Netherlands who was looking for players around the world who were Indonesian citizens or Indonesian descendants.

"He asked if I was open to naturalization with the aim of joining the national team," Ragnar said in a statement quoted on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

"I thought it would be fun, but I never thought it would be like this. The desire exists, the realization is not. I also haven't heard from him for a long time after that," he added.

PSSI's interest in recruiting Ragnar Oratmangoen as a naturalized player cannot be separated from the blood of Indonesian descendants that he has from his grandparents, his father's parents.

Ragnar received news that he was eyed by PSSI from his friend, Jay Idzes. Currently, Idzes has even completed the naturalization process and is one step away from officially becoming an Indonesian citizen.

"I heard from Jay (Idzes) my name was also mentioned (on the naturalization list). I then spoke with the 'connector' again."

"So far, there has been no news from him because he is busy managing all kinds of things. A lot happened very quickly after that," he explained.

In the midst of Ragnar's enthusiasm to be part of the Indonesian national team, he also said that this news also shocked his family and made him happy.

"My parents are happy, but my mother was surprised by the news (it will be naturalized). You see, the process (naturalization) can be done quickly," he added.

Ragnar Oratmangoen is currently 25 years old and plays in the wing striker position. He is a Fortuna Sittard player on loan from FC Groningen.

During his appearance at Eredivisie, Ragnar Oratmangoen has packed 62 appearances and five assists. Regarding the continuation of naturalization, it is reported that it will be realized in early 2024.
