Yakob Say Sorry After PSM Makassar Was Eliminated From The AFC Cup

JAKARTA - PSM Makassar had to end its struggle at the 2023/2024 AFC Cup after being held in the Hai Phong 1-1 series on the fifth matchday of Group H, Thursday, November 30, 2023. The captain, Yakob Sayuri, immediately apologized.

In the match which took place at the I Wayan Dipta Stadium, PSM failed to get full points. Facing representatives of Vietnam, PSM Makassar ended the match with a score of 1-1.

The result made them only able to add one point and it was confirmed that they could not catch Sabah's points who qualified as winners of Group H with 12 points.

Yakob Sayuri immediately apologized for this unsatisfactory result. Representing the team, he apologized to the supporters who had provided support.

"Still grateful for the results obtained tonight. Although not as desired, the team has worked hard. We apologize to all supporters," said Yakob Sayuri in a statement quoted on Friday, December 1, 2023.

Although confirmed to be eliminated, PSM still has one more match left in the 2023/2024 AFC Cup. The match is an away duel against Sabah.

Previously, from the five matches that had been passed, PSM recorded two wins, one draw, and two defeats.

Meanwhile, the results of the series against Hai Phong were inversely proportional to the words of Juku Eja coach, Bernardo Tavares. The previous tactician was so confident that he could win from the Vietnamese representative.

"I believe tomorrow Hai Phong will come to try to win from us. However, I believe tomorrow we will fight Hai Phong more strongly than that," said Tavares.

PSM is now in third place in Group H AFC Cup 2023/2024 with seven points. They are under Hai Phong who also collect similar points, but excel in goal difference.
