JAKARTA - The Indonesian cycling Team has adapted the race route for the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Para Games at the Chunmengan Jieshou Sports Center, Saturday, October 21.
Those who try the track are athletes who race Red and White bicycles for track numbers (cycling track) and highways (roadcycling). As is known, the race will start on October 23-27.
The coach of the Indonesian cycling team, Fadilah Umar, said that on the first day of this roadcycling exercise, athletes followed the route to be used for competitions that took about 18 kilometers.
"Later on during the competition, the distance that will be taken by athletes depends on the class that is followed. So there are athletes who have to cross this route as many as three to five laps," Umar said as quoted from the official statement of the Indonesian NPC.
The route character for the road category is also considered by Umar to be still reasonable because it is not too heavy. The route types have inclines, derivatives and horizontal roads. The route is not too extreme but still reasonable," he said.
In addition to the road category, athletes who will appear in the track category will also test the track at the Chunenjoyan Jieshou Sports Center Velodrome. The Indonesian cycling team conducted exercises with athletes from Nepal and India, adapting to the 250-meter-long track.
The surface of the track is made of wood, but the difference in the track is too circular so the straight path is not too long. This is the first time we have found a track like this, "said Umar.
The characteristics of the slightly different track are also a challenge for athletes. This exercise is for us to adapt to the track because the track is very challenging. Hopefully we can donate medals to Indonesia," said Indonesian cycling athlete Nur Fendi.
Meanwhile, a team of Indonesian cyclists with seven athletes is targeted to win two gold, two silver and six bronze medals from the 2022 Asian Para Games Hangzhou.
