Marwan/Jessica Get Second Place In Xpora Indonesia International Badminton Tournament

JAKARTA - Indonesian mixed doubles pair Marwan Faza and Jessica Maya Rismawardi brought home the runner-up title at the Xpora Indonesia International Challenge 2023 badminton tournament.

In the final which was held at GOR Pancing, Medan, North Sumatra, Sunday, Marwan and Jessica lost to representatives of Thailand, Weeraphat Phakjarung/Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn with a score of 17-21, 21-12, 9-21.

The ranked 169 pair in the world admitted that they could not get out of the pressure of the couple from the White Elephant Country.

"In this match we couldn't get out of the pressure. The opponent seemed to be pressing and we couldn't keep up with their style of play," said Marwan, quoted from PBSI's official statement.

When he was able to gain momentum in the second game, Marwan and Jessica's performance actually decreased after the opponent appeared more pressing.

"We are not ready to face opponents today. When they appear to attack, we are unable to get out of the opponent's pressure throughout the match," Jessica said as quoted by Antara, September 3.

However, Marwan and Jessica still feel grateful to be able to reach the final of the Xpora Indonesia International Challenge 2023 tournament, considering that the opponents they face are not easy.

Both agreed that the defeat was used as a lesson for both of them to look to the next tournament to play more consistently.

"We have to increase our energy to face opponents who play in that style. There are many evaluations in this match, we also have to be more prepared from the start of the match in the future," said Jessica.
