Surabaya City Government Gives IDR 1.2 Billion Appreciation Bonus For Athletes And SEA Games 2023 Coaches

SURABAYA - The Surabaya City Government gave a bonus appreciation of Rp1.2 billion to 32 sports heroes, consisting of 26 athletes and 6 coaches, who have struggled and donated medals at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.

The Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, said that this was a form of appreciation from the Surabaya City Government to athletes who managed to achieve brilliant achievements and make Surabaya proud. The award bonus handover ceremony was held in the Surabaya City Hall room on Saturday.

Mayor Eri explained that this appreciation was actually given at the reception for the 730th Anniversary of the City of Surabaya (HJKS) on May 31, 2023. However, at that time many athletes and coaches were unable to attend, so only two athletes received the appreciation.

Mayor Eri expressed his gratitude because the City Government was able to give appreciation to the athletes who had contributed to winning medals at the 2023 Cambodian SEA Games. He explained that all Surabaya athletes who won gold, silver, and bronze received appreciation bonuses, although the number was different depending on the type of medal obtained, both in the individual and team categories.

In addition, the Mayor also gave a message to all athletes to continue to improve their abilities so that they can continue to achieve achievements. He is committed to returning Surabaya as a sports city by producing many outstanding athletes from the city.

"I believe Surabaya will continue to be the best for the athletes," said Cak Eri, the mayor's nickname in Surabaya.

Mayor Eri has also asked the Head of the Surabaya Culture, Youth and Sports and Tourism Office (Disbudporapar) to prepare training facilities for all sports. This is intended so that when there is a training camp, athletes do not experience difficulties. He also emphasized that the preparation of the training facility will begin in 2024.

"When the training ground is not yet available in 2023, the Surabaya City Government will provide training centers. In this way, sports sports training centers are expected to run better and Surabaya athletes can achieve more achievements," he added.

Meanwhile, the General Chairperson of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) of the City of Surabaya, Hoslih Abdullah, admitted that the bonus appreciation to athletes and coaches from the Surabaya City Government was extraordinary. In fact, he assessed that the appreciation bonus given to the athletes was greater than other regions.

"Of course this will further pump up the athletes' enthusiasm to continue to achieve achievements in the future," he said.

Meanwhile, Rivan Nurmulki, a Volly athlete who brought the men's Volly national team to gold at the Cambodian SEA Games, expressed his gratitude to the Surabaya City Government for giving this appreciation. For him, this appreciation will continue to increase his enthusiasm in achieving achievements.

"Surely we will continue to compete in achieving achievements in the future," he said.
