Drought Goals And Scattered To Position Four Standings, Klopp Dismissed The Assumption Of Tired Liverpool Players

JAKARTA - Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp insists his team's performance has not decreased even though they have been in a goal-dragging condition during the last few matches.

A zero draw against Manchester United at Anfield last weekend made Liverpool go through three games without scoring for the first time since March 2005.

Even so, Klopp also dismissed the notion that his players were hit by fatigue even though he agreed that Liverpool had to be better at completing the opportunities they had.

Klopp hopes that this will be resolved soon when Liverpool host Burnley in the postponed match of the 18th Premier League at Anfield on Thursday, January 21 local time (Friday WIB).

"We didn't score many goals, but that doesn't mean our performance has decreased," Klopp said as quoted by Reuters by Reuters on Wednesday.

"We know we are in a position that we don't want, but whatever the reason is it is not important. We have to be able to show our game at the best level and that is not visible in the final third of the field," he added.

Since hitting Crystal Palace's goal seven goals without reply on 19 December, Liverpool have gone through four games scoring just one goal, as if wasteful of their goal savings at Selhurst Park.

Klopp admits that often such drastic changes cannot be explained logically, as he cited the conditions experienced by Manchester City defender John Stones, who scored three goals in the last four games in all competitions.

"Goals didn't flow fast, so we really had to work hard to overcome the situation," said Klopp.

"Look at John Stones at Manchester City, he scored three goals lately and you certainly can't explain the phenomenon. So we just need to be calm, remain greedy and make the right decisions to change things," he concluded.

If the goal drought is not resolved immediately, it is not impossible that Klopp and his players must immediately forget about the hustle and bustle about trying to keep the Premier League title.

Liverpool are now scattered in fourth place in the standings with a collection of 34 points and six points behind Manchester United (40), who last night established their top position after silencing Fulham 2-1.
