JAKARTA - Director of PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB), Ferry Paulus revealed the format that will be applied for the 2023/2024 Asian Champions League playoffs. The match which will bring together PSM Makassar and Bali United will be held with an away cage system.

PSM Makassar became Indonesia's representative in the Asian Champions League playoffs with the status of winning Liga 1 2022/2023. However, they did not automatically qualify because they had to face Bali United who won the 2021/2022 Liga 1 season.

Ferry Paulus said the previous playoff schedule was planned to take place before Eid al-Fitr 2023 with a single match format. However, due to problems with permission from the police, the agenda shifted to after Eid.

"Initially, we wanted to prepare before Lebaran, but because at first we planned a single match, that's why we were placed in a neutral place," said Ferry Paulus in a statement on Thursday, April 13.

"But we are constrained by the police's permission because we want Eid, so there is a ketupat operation," added the former Persija Jakarta official.

After experiencing a schedule shift, the fotmat single match can be changed. He said the playoffs will finally be held in a home away format or a trip that is considered profitable for all parties.

"At first we wanted to move it to April 18, while we already have a competition permit until the 16th. We want to tighten the schedule again, but it's too tight," said Ferry.

"So, we agree with all teams, because after Lebaran it can be Home-Away. Of course, from the valuation of the play-off, it will be good, the league will also have a good broadcast impact," he explained.

Although it has confirmed the format to be used in the Asian Champions League playoffs, Ferry Paulus has not disclosed the exact schedule for the meeting of PSM Makassar and Bali United to be held. But there is a possibility that the match will be held in the second week of May 2023.
