JAKARTA - Formula 1 on Tuesday overhauled the 2021 season calendar with the Australian Grand Prix postponed to November and Bahrain to replace it as host of the opening series.

The calendar still consists of 23 races starting with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 28, one week ahead of the original schedule that was supposed to start in Melbourne.

"The global pandemic has not allowed life to return to normal, but we have shown 2020 that we can race safely as the first international sport to return (to be held)," said F1 president Stefano Domenicali as quoted by Antara from AFP.

Due to travel border regulations, organizers are still discussing the continuation of the Chinese Grand Prix which is supposed to take place April 18, with the possibility of delaying it later this year.

Imola Circuit, Italy, currently occupies the allotted slot of the Shanghai circuit as the host of the second series.
