YOGYAKARTA - The construction of the Gelora Bung Karno Indoor Multifunction Stadium (IMS), Jakarta, continues to be accelerated in preparation for becoming the venue for the FIBA World Cup 2023. The construction process has reached 83 percent and the topping-off (roof cover) of this stadium has been inaugurated by President Joko Widodo.

The Center for the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) welcomes the FIBA-standard stadium in Indonesia. The construction of the IMS was carried out in consultation with FIBA. Apart from the FIBA ​​World Cup 2023, Perbasi also hopes that IMS will be able to organize international events such as NBA matches.

After IMS is officially completed and ready for use, in the future there will be many international events at this stadium. So what is the magnificence of this Indoor Multifunction Stadium like?

Technology at the Indoor Multifunction Stadium

IMS GBK is a stadium that is made with very complete facilities. Apart from basketball matches, IMS can also be used to hold other events. The existing facilities in the IMS arena meet international standards.

Green Building concept

IMS was built with the green building concept, for the first time with the 7D system. Development is supported by  Artificial Intelligence (AI) computer technology analysis. This concept has several advantages so it does not absorb a lot of energy, starting from the use of light, paying attention to air circulation, to water storage.

NBA Standard Lighting

The stadium lighting system at IMS complies with NBA standards. The level of lighting reaches 2,800 to 3,000 lux. The light dimmed gradually until it reached the stands.

Sound System

Another international standard facility installed at IMS is its sound system. The sound system used is very supportive for organizing various events. The sound system is an original product made in the country.

FIBA Class 1 Standard Flooring

Flooring according to class 1 standards from FIBA ​​will be used for the court. The equipment is owned by IMS, not borrowed from FIBA.

Air conditioners

The air conditioner (AC) used at IMS is similar to several stadiums at the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The presence of air conditioning plays an important role in air circulation for spectators. Especially when the event is held during the day in hot weather.

Indoor Multifunction Stadium capacity

IMS has an area of ​​50,398 square meters and can accommodate 16,523 spectators. The government claims that IMS is a stadium with the largest area and capacity in Indonesia.

IMS capacity meets FIBA ​​standards, which must be indoor with a minimum capacity of 16,000. There are 12,000 seats in the upper and lower stands. A total of 2,500 seats are near the telescopic field. Even the IMS building matches the existing closed stadium in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan.

At the very bottom, stands are made portable or can be installed and removed as needed. The existence of portable stands allows spectators to sit closer to the field, so it will provide an interesting experience.

The IMS building consists of five floors and all parts are covered. So this stadium can hold various events in any weather conditions. On the 3rd floor of the stadium, there is a royal box that adopts the NBA stadium. Royal box is provided as VVIP tribune for important people.
