Lionel Messi Follows In The Footsteps Of Cristiano Ronaldo

JAKARTA - Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star Lionel Messi has again made history in the world of football. He scored 700th goal at the European club level.

The record also makes La Pulga legitimate in following in the footsteps of his rival, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi's 700th goal at the European club level was scored when he defended PSG against Olympique Marseille. In the French Ligue 1 Week match at Stade Velodrome, Monday, February 27 in the morning WIB, Les Parisiens won 3-0 over the hosts.

Messi managed to get his name on the scoreboard when he scored the second goal for PSG when the game was running 29 minutes. While the other two goals were contributions from Kylian Mbappe minutes 25 and 55.

Reporting from the BBC on Monday, February 27, Messi's goal at PSG made him record himself as the second footballer to break through 700 goals.

Since joining PSG from Barcelona in December 2022, Messi has scored 28 goals. Previously Messi had scored 672 goals in 778 matches in Barcelona.

While his rival, Ronaldo has surpassed 700 goals at the start of the 2022/2023 season. The record was achieved by CR7 while still dressed as Manchester United (MU) with 701 goals in Europe, before finally moving to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.

With that comparative note, Messi clearly has a great chance of passing Ronaldo's achievements at the European level by only scoring two more goals. The Kans is also wide open considering that La Pulga's performance at PSG continues to sharpen.

For Messi, the 2022/2023 competition season has become a special period in his career as a footballer. This is because the 35-year-old player was able to find his best touch again when he was in PSG uniform.
