Respect The Impact Tragedy: The Chairman Of PSSI Proposed October 1 So National Football Holidays

PSSI General Chair Mochamad Iriawan suggested that every October 1 would be used as a national football holiday to honor the tragedy of Kanjuruhan.

This was conveyed by Iriawan in his remarks at the PSSI Ordinary Congress (KB) at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, Sunday, January 15, 2021.

"We propose that every October 1 be a holiday for all football activities in Indonesia," he said.

The Kanjuruhan tragedy occurred on October 1 after the match between the hosts Arema Malang and their rival Persebaya Surabaya at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang.

This incident killed a total of 135 people. They died because they were running out of breath because they were crammed while trying to avoid tear gas that was sprayed by the security forces.

"Hopefully the others agree. This proposal is to commemorate the victims of Kanjuruhan. They are all heroes," said Iriawan.

The Ordinary Congress was held by PSSI to determine the Election Committee (KP) and the Election Appeal Committee (KBP). So far, 10 candidates have been submitted as voters from League 1 club 2, as well as the Provincial Association.

Meanwhile, the agenda for the election of the General Chair, Deputy General Chair, and members of the Executive Committee will be held at the Extraordinary Congress (KLB) which will take place on February 16.

So far, there have been two names running for PSSI General Chair, namely SOE Minister Erick Thohir and Chairman of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD) AA Lanyalla Mahmud Mattalitti.
