The beginning of the Davis Cup had a long history since before the second world war. The tournament was staged in 1899 as a tennis competition between the United States and the United Kingdom (United Kingdom).

Davis's Cup was initiated when Harvard University tennis team wanted to challenge the British tennis team. The team from Harvard, which consists of four people, wants to budget international tennis competitions through these challenges.

The United States tennis federation at that time agreed with the competition plan. Sacrifis F. Vais, one in four Harvard tennis players, designed what the tournament format would be. Then came the idea of a trophy that was made into a silver prize from Shreve, Cump, & Low.
