JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially opened the 8th Wushu Junior World Championship (WJWC) 2022. This event is expected to be a bridge of friendship between nations.

The eighth edition of the WJWC will take place at ICE Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD), Tangerang, Banten, from 5 to 11 December 2022. This championship will be attended by 800 participants from 60 countries and two regions.

"I really hope that the presence of ladies and gentlemen in Indonesia can be used to get to know Indonesia," said Jokowi in his remarks.

Furthermore, Jokowi hopes that this event can strengthen the friendship between nations in addition to the main goal of all delegates to be the best and bring home the championship medal.

"Therefore, I invite all athletes to compete happily, compete sportsmanly, show the best ability to win the expected medal," he said.

This year, Indonesia as the host sent a total of 23 athletes, with details of 12 athletes number taolu and 11 other athletes for the sanda number. Six gold medals were also targeted to be brought home by the Red and White representative.

A total of 71 gold medals will be won by all the contestants. The taolu number is 54 gold that is fought for, while in the sanda number there are 17 gold medals.
