JAKARTA - The Belgian national team announced the squad for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Romelu Lukaku's name is included in it.

This decision raised fan questions. The reason is, Lukaku's condition is somewhat doubtful due to injury.

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez spoke up. He gave an explanation about Lukaku's summons.

"Romelu is not fit, it is clear. He is under treatment and has until November 22, 24 hours before our first game, to recover," Martinez explained, as quoted from FIFA's official website, Friday, November 11.

"We rely on experience from 2018, we know that the World Cup has two stages: group stage, the only thing we can prepare, then the knockout system. We hope Romelu Lukaku can participate in this second half."

Martinez then commented on the squad selection for the 2022 World Cup. He said his toughest choices were in the defense sector.

He admitted that it was hard to leave the players who were considered dedicated to the national team and played an important role in the qualifying session.

"The hardest decision is to leave Dedryck Boyata for his dedication," Martinez said.
