JAKARTA - Saul Canelo Alvarez underwent surgery on his left hand to heal the old injury he suffered from before the match against Dmitry Bivol last May.

The Mexican boxer had difficulty practicing, even in that fight it made him pain when he punch his opponents.

However, after the defeat to Bivol and a sluggish win over Gennady Golovkin, the champion stated that pain was not an excuse for his poor performance.

ESPN reported that Canelo's team said the wrist in his left hand was not cracked, but the injury required surgery. Canelo underwent surgery in Los Angeles and everything went smoothly.

In a video he uploaded on Instagram Story, Canelo shows a bandage wrapping his left hand. In the video there is also a lion doll as a gift from one of his daughters. The boxer received the gift with love.

Before undergoing surgery, Canelo had speculated that he would be absent for a year because he would not be able to hit. However, because it is not a fracture, recovery time can be faster.

Canelo's wrist had to be mobilized for at least three weeks, after which he could not make a sudden move.
