JAKARTA - Repsol Honda team racer Marc Marquez underwent surgery on his right arm again following the slow process of restoring a fractured humeral bone.

"Today the racer underwent surgery at the Ruber International Hospital, in Madrid, for pseudarthrosis in his right humerus," said the official statement of the Repsol Honda team which was reported by Antara on Thursday local time.

The operation was performed by a team of doctors to replace the previously attached plate with a new plate with the addition of an iliac crest bone graft with a corticoperiosteal free flap.

"The operating procedure lasted eight hours and went smoothly."

The Repsol Honda team said the operation was carried out because Marquez's humerus fracture since the MotoGP series opener in Jerez in July "has not improved with treatment using certain shock waves."

This is the Spaniard's third operation after he broke the plate attached to his arm in a domestic accident at his home last August, forcing him to undergo a second operation.

After missing the tight 2020 season, the six-time MotoGP world champion is expected to recover to play next season with his new partner, Pol Espargaro in the Repsol Honda team.

However, motorsport.com said Marquez may have to undergo a recovery process for the next six months, which will see him miss the start of the 2021 season on March 28 in Qatar.

Honda has not issued any comments regarding the rider's recovery process.

Throughout the 2020 season, Honda commissioned test rider Stefan Bradl to replace Marquez.
