Napoli Continue Reminiscent Of Maradona With A 4-0 Win Over Roma

JAKARTA - Napoli continue to remember Diego Maradona with a 4-0 win over AS Roma in the ninth round of the Italian League which was played at the San Paolo Stadium, Naples, local Sunday or Monday morning WIB.

In that match, Napoli wore a special light blue and white shirt, the color of the Argentina national team shirt, and put Maradona's face and name on the videotron around the field.

The victory brought Napoli to fifth in the Italian League standings with 17 points, while Roma were stuck in sixth place, also with 17 points, Antara noted on the official Italian League website.

As with other Italian League matches played this weekend, play was stopped at the tenth minute so that all the players and those present could applaud their tribute to Maradona.

Napoli, who dominated the game from the start, were only able to break the deadlock in the 30th minute. Captain Lorenzo Insigne curled a free kick over the player's fence and into the corner of the net without the keeper Antonio Mirante anticipating. Insigne celebrated the goal by running to the sidelines, lifting a shirt with the name Maradona, and kissing him.

Roma had a chance to equalize when Roger Ibanez fired a free kick, but Bryan Cristante's volley shot over the bar. The visitors had their next problem when they had to replace Gianluca Mancini who has a calf injury with Juan Jesus.

After halftime, Napoli had the opportunity to double their lead. However Hirving Lozano forced a shot from a tight angle instead of finding Piotr Zielinski who was standing free.

When Roma started to press, Napoli doubled their lead in the 64th minute. Mario Rui started the move with a heel kick, but Fabian Ruis used Juan Jesus as a "shield" on the edge of the box, Rui's ball then rushed through the defender's legs and could not be monitored by Mirante.

Carles Perez's volley went wide, but Napoli grabbed his third in the 81st minute. Mirante was able to ward off Eljif Elmas's shot, the ball then bounced towards the movement of Dries Mertens who easily shot it into the opponent's goal.

Substitute Matteo Politano completed Napoli's win with a goal in the 87th minute. He got the ball on the edge of the box, dodged three tackles, outwitted Mirante and threw the ball into the empty net with a light left-footed strike.

Napoli will visit the headquarters of the crotone caretaker team in the tenth round match on Sunday (6/12), having previously traveled to AZ Alkmaar headquarters to play a Europa League match on Thursday (3/12). Roma will also play a Europa League match against Young Boys, before hosting Sassuolo next week.
