Never Having An Intention To Leave For Manchester United, Frenkie De Jong: That's Why I Stay Calm

JAKARTA Frenkie de Jong admits he really has no intention of leaving Barcelona and joining Manchester United.

The Dutch international became wanted by the Red Devils this summer. However, he ended up staying at Barcelona until the closing of the transfer market.

"I've always wanted to stay at Barcelona and that's why I always stay calm in the summer," de Jong said.

Manchester United has actually agreed with Barcelona regarding the cost of moving de Jong to Old Trafford. However, the player insisted on not joining the British giant.

However, MU's possibility to return to de Jong is certainly still there. It's just that he is still unclear about his future.

"I can't give you too many details. However, it is known that the club has its own ideas and I also have my own ideas. Sometimes this clashes with each other before everything goes back to normal," he said.

MU coach Erik ten Hag actually really wanted de Jong. Moreover, the two of them worked together when they were both serving the Dutch giant Ajax Amsterdam.

De Jong made 59 appearances under Ten Hag while Ajax. He became part of the squad that reached the semifinals of the Champions League in 2019.

He is currently part of Xavi Hernandez's plans at Barcelona after staying at the club. This season he has featured as many in eight games as they have played so far this season.

The 25-year-old is currently joining the Dutch national team in the international break. They will face Poland and Belgium in the last two games of the League of Nations next week.
