Sports Director Salzburg Becomes A Strong Candidate In Place Of Marina Granovskia At Chelsea

JAKARTA - Chelsea has yet to find a replacement for Marina Granovskia, who previously served as sports director. Several names have been considered, but no one has been officially introduced.

This position is temporarily held by Tod Boehly, the new boss. Together with Chelsea's new coach, Graham Potter, Boehly has been discussing the appointment of a sports director.

Later, the name Christoph Freund came to the fore. The figure of RB Salzburg will reportedly be brought to Stamford Bridge to fill the position of sports director.

"Christoph Freund will sign a document to be unveiled as Chelsea's new director in the next few days," said Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

"He has also been 'approved' by Graham Potter as the perfect profile to work together on projects now and in the future. It's only a matter of time to sign him, as well (a deal) with Salzburg."

Besides Freund, there is also the name Luis Campos from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). However, Campos is reportedly reluctant to leave PSG.

The reason Chelsea took aim at Freund was also because of the club's qualified experience. While in Salzburg, Freund has handled deals with a number of big names such as Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane, Naby Keita, and Dayot Upamecano.

Not only that, Freund also successfully made two most expensive sales in the history of the Salzburg club this summer. He successfully delivered Karim Adeyemi andrenden Aaronson to Borussia Dortmund and Leeds United.

Freund's career in Salzburg began in 2012, he was appointed director of the sport Salzburg after three years in charge of sports coordinators. Although closely linked to Chelsea, Freund can't just leave because his contract is still valid until 2026.

However, Freund is believed to have an interest in the Blues. This was revealed from his comments after the draw for the Chelsea vs Salzburg match in the Champions League.
