JAKARTA - Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo will use Yamaha's new chassis at the Aragon Grand Prix this weekend as the world title race heats up following Francesco Bagnaia's increasingly closing to the top of the standings.

Quartararo is still in control of the standings with a 30-point lead over the Ducati rider, but Bagnaia has won four straight races before Aragon and has become one of his favorites to repeat his win at the Spanish circuit just like last year.

Thanks to the four victories, Bagnaia cut more than 60 points to get close to the reigning champions with six races remaining.

Hope to find additional form, Quartararo will use Yamaha's new chassis which he tested at Misano's test last week for free practice sessions in Aragon.

"We will have a chassis of the Misano test, we'll see when we can use it," Quartararo said at a pre-race press conference session in Aragon, quoted by Antara, Friday.

"I think the Misano test is important, it's not about what we test but after the Misano race everything is a little disappointed, but I think the test makes them smile again and adds to their belief. So it's a good test and a very good moment to raise everyone's spirits."

However, the Frenchman acknowledged Aragon was a fairly difficult track to tame when Quartararo's best result there was finishing in the top five in 2019.

"It's a tough track but we're pretty fast here all the time during training and qualifying, but in the race we've never had a good result," he said.

"We know what the problem is, especially in the last two years, so we're going to try to solve it so it doesn't happen again this year. Sector 4 will still be the toughest for us but I'm sure, we'll see."

Quartararo for the first time had a premier class race at Aragon in 2019, when he missed pole position but started from the front row for the eighth time in the season as a rookie. He fought Maverick Vinales at the start but was only able to finish P5 which was his best result on the Spanish circuit so far.

In GP Aragon 2020 he won pole, even though he fell during FP3, but finished P18 because he had technical problems in the race. Then at GP Teruel he started from P6 and finished P8.

Last year he started P3 behind Bagnaia and Jack Miller, but his position slipped to P7 during the opening lap and had to settle for finishing P8 for the second time in a row at Aragon.
