Queen Elizabeth II Dies, The Premier League Lates Anniversary Is Most Likely Postponed

JAKARTA - All football matches in the Premier League this weekend are likely to be postponed due to the country's mourning for the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The 70-year-old Queen died at the age of 96 in Balmoral on Friday, September 9 in the morning WIB. This sad incident caused a 72-hour moratorium for public events in the UK.

The delay is believed to also apply to football competitions and other sports in the country. However, so far there has been no official confirmation regarding this matter.

According to a Sky Sport report, a decision on the weekend match schedule will be made on Friday morning local time after discussions with the Department of Culture, Media and Sports.

Actually, there is no mandate and official regulation from the government to cancel sporting events. However, it has been indicated that most of the matches and public events will be postponed.

Currently, the English Football League (EFL) which houses divisions under the Premier League has announced several delays. Among them are Burnley vs Norwich and Tranmere vs Stockport matches.

"As a sign of respect, after the death of Queen Elizabeth II today, EFL confirmed that matches scheduled for tomorrow evening (September 9th Friday) Burnley v Norwich City and Tranmere Rovers v Stockport County have been postponed," reads the EFL release.

Then the SPFL confirmed that the match between Cove Rangers and the local time would also be postponed. The authority will update the weekend schedule on Friday.

The postponement was also announced by the Northern Irish Football League. The delay occurred on Friday's schedule local time between Cliftonville and Glentoran and Larne and Dungannon.
