JAKARTA - Repsol Honda has officially recruited Joan Mir to fill the composition of racers in the 2023 MotoGP season.

The announcement was made by Honda on their social media Instagram on Tuesday, August 30. Mir will partner with his compatriot Marc Marquez.

"Honda Racing Corporation is proud to announce the signing of Joan Mir," Honda said in a statement on their Instagram page.

The 24-year-old got a two-year-old contract. Later he will compete by using a Honda RC213V.

The 2020 MotoGP world champion appeared as a talent in world championships in his first full season in the 2016 Moto3 season. In 2018, he then moved up to Moto2.

One season of self-employment at the class, Mir decided to race for Suzuki in 2019. The driver, who is identical to number 36, has claimed 12 Grand Prix wins and 33 podiums during his career in world championships.

The joining of Mir with Honda cannot be separated from the announcement made by Suzuki in early May that they will be leaving MotoGP at the end of the season.

Suzuki's decision to step down was motivated by problems with the need for resource allocation on other sustainable initiatives.

Previously Mir's colleague in Suzuki, Alex Rins, had already signed a contract with the Honda LCR satellite team. Rins also got a contract duration of two years.
