JAKARTA - Indonesia came out as the overall champion of the XI 2022 ASEAN Para Games (APG) table tennis at Solo Techno Park Surakarta, Central Java with 27 gold medals.

NPC Indonesia table tennis coach Bayu Widihapsara Purba in Solo, Saturday, said that the Indonesian contingent in the final final round at Solo Techno Park, Friday, added six gold from the 10 numbers contested.

The Indonesian table tennis team collected a total of 27 gold, 16 silver and 22 bronze. "Indonesia in the table tennis branch became the overall champion with a total of 65 medals consisting of 27 gold, 16 silver and 22 bronze from the 51 numbers contested. Indonesia is also the overall champion of this year's APG," said Bayu as quoted from Antara.

According to Bayu, Indonesia's table tennis gold has exceeded the initial target of 12 gold.

Thailand is in second place in the table tennis medals with a collection of 21 gold, 24 silver and 12 bronze, while Timor Leste is in third place with two gold and three bronze.

Malaysia is fourth with one gold and one silver, the Philippines is fifth with one silver and 11 bronze, while Vietnam has one silver and 10 bronze.

Singapore is seventh with one silver and three bronze, then Cambodia with one bronze. Meanwhile, Brunei Darussalam, Laos and Myanmar were without medals for table tennis.

Bayu explained that the success of the Indonesian table tennis sport was due to the hard work and fighting spirit of the athletes to be the best. Table tennis athletes play amazingly and they can unexpectedly beat top athletes from other countries.

"The surprise for Indonesian table tennis athletes occurred in the women's singles TT5 class, Leli Marlina and the women's singles TT7 class from athlete Sili Fadilah who managed to win gold. This was beyond our target," said Bayu about the success of the ASEAN Para Games athletes in Indonesia.
