Liverpool Striker Mohamed Salah Is Infected With COVID-19 While On International Duty

JAKARTA - Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah tested positive for COVID-19 while on international duty. This was disclosed by the Egyptian Football Association on Friday afternoon.

"The medical examination carried out ... shows that our international player, Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool star, is infected with the coronavirus, having tested positive," read a statement from the Egyptian FA on Twitter.

"Although he did not suffer any symptoms. While the rest of the team was negative."

The news will be a new blow to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who has lost Sadio Mane and summer signing Thagio Alcantara as his test results were also positive earlier this season.

In addition, defender Joe Gomez may be out for a long time due to injury while on international duty with England. Not to mention Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold who also had to pull over.

Last month Klopp expressed concern that his players had contracted COVID-19 while on international duty.

"I don't want to sound impolite about how other countries are doing it, but this is a place that we know and we know how we are dealing with," Klopp said.

"So I'm a little worried because it's difficult to get in touch with all the FA (football associations) around the world.

"I understand it, I understand very well how difficult the situation is but it's not completely perfect, the information we got from the FA is certain.

"As a football club you are quite alone at these moments, we send the players away and then we have another challenge because we have to play a Premier League game on Saturday after they travel from, maybe Peru, on Thursday or Friday.

"You have to make sure that you take the players home in the fastest and safest way and then we have to see how they are doing before we try to get a result on Saturday."
