After 2 Years Of Vacuum, Indonesia Open Again Held With International Golf Stars

JAKARTA - The prestigious golf tournament, the Indonesia Open, will be held again this year. Previously, the tournament had been on hiatus for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the Mandiri Indonesia Open 2022, a number of Asian golf stars, including Sihwan Kim, are currently at the top of the Asian Tour's order of merit. He will compete with other top golfers at Pondok Indah Golf Course, Jakarta, 4-7 August 2022.

Among them are Miguel Angel Carballo (2019 Indonesia Open champion), Panuphol Pittayarat (2017 champion), Gaganjeet Bhullar (2013 and 2015 champion), and veteran player Thaworn Wiratchant (2005 and 2011 champion).

The golfers will compete for a total prize of 500 thousand US dollars or around Rp. 7.4 billion. The Indonesia Open is a golf tournament that is the pride of Indonesia which has been held since 1974.

"Mandiri Indonesia Open 2022 is very important for the progress of golf in Indonesia and Asia. We also express our appreciation because professional golf athletes from other countries outside Asia are also very enthusiastic to participate in this tournament," said Chairman of the Indonesian Golf Association, Murdaya Po.

Besides being followed by international golfers, several Indonesian players also participated. As the host, Indonesia has a quota of 20 professional golfers. The co-hosts included Rory Hie, Danny Masrin, George Gandranata, Benny Kasiadi, and Naarajie Emerald Ramadhanputra.

The Asian Tour welcomes the re-organization of the Indonesia Open. This tournament was last held in 2019.

"The tournament and venue have strong ties to us, and play a very important role in the Asian Tour tournament agenda," said Director of Event Management, Tournament Development Asian Tour, Rob Turnbull.
