Semen Padang Calls League 2 Format With 3 Budget-Efficient Regions But Competition Between Teams Is Getting Tighter

JAKARTA - The management of Semen Padang Football Club (SPFC) assesses that the format of the 2022 Liga 2 competition by dividing all teams into three regions will save the budget in running the competition season.

CEO of Semen Padang FC, Win Bernadino in Padang, Sunday, said that the budget savings were of course due to the closer distance between the teams in one area and this had an impact on the budget, but the competition between one team and another would be even tighter.

Meanwhile, if you use the format of two regions, namely the western and eastern regions, the competition will be like the previous season when the COVID-19 pandemic had not yet occurred.

"We'll see if there are three regions or two regions, all of which have advantages and disadvantages," said Win as quoted by Antara.

PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) together with PSSI invited management to attend a "manager meeting" which was held online on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

According to him, in the "manager meeting" it will be officially explained the format of Liga 2 2022, which must be carried out by 28 teams fighting for three promotion tickets to League 1.

The 28 clubs participating in Liga 2 next season consist of 17 Liga 2 2021 clubs as well as eight clubs promoted to Liga 3 2021-2022 plus three Liga 1 clubs who were relegated last season, namely Persipura Jayapura, Persela Lamongan and Persiraja Banda Aceh.

Previously, the three-region competition format was presented by PT LIB in a Coordination Meeting with club management and the police. The whole team will be divided into three regions, for region A will consist of nine teams, region B will be filled with 10 teams and region C will be filled with nine teams.

The two best teams from each region are entitled to qualify for the round of 6 and compete there for three tickets for promotion to League 1 next season. This format has not yet been agreed upon by Exco PSSI and will be announced at the "manager meeting" later.
