JAKARTA - Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will face off for the second time early next year.

McGregor has twice declared his retirement from the sport - the second came as recently as June, but he is confirmed to appear at the UFC 257 which will take place in Las Vegas on January 23.

Reported by the Daily Star, Tuesday, November 10, negotiations for the lightweight fight had been going on for several weeks. Until now, it is suspected that McGregor still wants the party to be held earlier in December.

The 32-year-old fighter has expressed frustration at the rematch promotion several times after his victory over Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone in January. He even suggested that the fight with Poirier would be temporarily labeled 'charity battle'.

As for this time, MMA Fighting reports, the agreement has been confirmed with both parties.

UFC boss Dana White is said to have gotten involved after hearing the aforementioned talk between a former rival, who fought in the lightweight class in 2014.

The former featherweight and lightweight champion knocked out that encounter, and went on to win six of his eight subsequent fights to date.

Meanwhile Poirier has won five of his last six fights including wins over Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway and Dan Hooker.

This month, McGregor tweeted about his current status: “I'm ready to (fight) back and be in the best place I've been.

"Very excited to show my training to the world! But still waiting for official confirmation."

After lashing out at White in August saying: “The code was broken when you lied about me refusing to fight.

“I said Justin (Gaethje) in May and you went and said I didn't want to fight. This is not about Diego (Sanchez).

“You have also been involved in the Manny Pacquiao talk, the official letter is there. Stop lying. "
