Government Forms Special Committee For 2032 Olympics Host Nomination

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered his staff to form a special committee to prepare Indonesia's candidacy for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the 2032 Olympics.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Zainudin Amali, after a virtual closed meeting chaired by President Jokowi from the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 4.

"The president gave directions, first to prepare a team in the form of a special committee for the preparation of the 2032 Olympics host bidding, second is to prepare a budget," said Zainudin.

President Jokowi, said Zainudin, also asked for everything related to bidding, such as proposals or feasibility studies to be carefully prepared with the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) and other related institutions.

Zainudin said Indonesia was ready to host the biggest sporting event in the world.

"We have submitted a letter to the IOC stating that Indonesia is ready to host the 2032 Olympics," he said.

Chairman of KOI Raja Sapta Oktohari on the same occasion said that the bidding process will be carried out until 2023. In 2024 the IOC will determine which country will host the 2032 Olympics.

According to the King, Indonesia will compete with Australia, Germany, Korea Unification, Qatar and India as candidates for the 2032 Olympics.

"The advantages possessed by Indonesia, which is quite confident in competing with other countries considering the relatively stable weather and temperature conditions in Indonesia, security, hospitality, culinary, beauty, and others are the main considerations," said Raja.

Indonesia first expressed its desire to host the 2032 Olympics to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the 2018 Asian Games. President Jokowi has also sent an official letter regarding his request to host the 2032 Olympics.

For the 2024 and 2028 Olympics, Paris, France and Los Angeles, the United States have each secured host approval.
