Sterling On The Verge Of Breaking Through City's Top 10 Goalscorers List

JAKARTA - Raheem Sterling is championed by two former Manchester City players, Richard Dunne and Joleon Lescott, to break The Citizens' record for the most goals of all time.

Sterling has now scored 105 goals for City since signing from Liverpool in 2015. That number leaves Sterling just three goals adrift of equalizing the tally of goals set by City legend Neil Young.

Furthermore, Sterling needs to score 27 more goals to enter his name in the top 10 of City's all-time top scorer list.

Sterling, who is currently 25, still has enough time to put his name on City's all-time top scorer list, led by Sergio Aguero with 255 goals.

"Sergio must be careful. The record could be taken," Lescott said as quoted by Antara from City's official website, Thursday night.

"Raheem scored an average of 20 goals a season, that's incredible," he added.

The same voice was conveyed by Dunne and the former City captain who admitted that he was not only amazed by Sterling's ability to score goals, but his leadership character that continued to develop from season to season.

"He captained this team several times and in fact could transform into a leader," he said.

Dunne did not even hesitate to predict that Sterling would one day reach the level of the superstar Barcelona and the Argentine national team, Lionel Messi.

"What he does on the pitch is incredible. If he scores every chance he has, maybe he will collect 50 to 60 goals a season, and equal to Lionel Messi. But I'm sure he will reach that level," said Dunne.

Despite scoring a lot of goals, Sterling is also known to often waste City's golden opportunities, especially in precarious situations, as he showed when the Citizens were eliminated by Olympique Lyon in the Champions League quarter-finals last season.

Of course, Pep Guardiola hopes it is not that side of Sterling that will be shown when City travel to Sheffield United in Week 7 of the Premier League on Saturday.

Moreover, it is suspected that Aguero is still sidelined because of his recurrent injury and Gabriel Jesus has not shown any signs of leaving the treatment room.

City, currently 13th in the standings with just eight points after having had their worst start to the season under Guardiola in recent seasons.
