A brief History

Football is the most loved sport in many parts of the world, including England. Historically, the Three Lions and the Scotland national football team are considered the oldest national football teams in the world. They first met in a friendly match on 5 March 1870 at The Oval in London which ended in a 1-1 draw. Since then, the Three Lions have entered several competitions, including the World Cup and the European Cup.

1996 World Cup Victory

England won their first and only World Cup in 1966 after beating West Germany 4-2 in extra time. The squad, consisting of Alf Ramsey, Bobby Charlton and Bobby Moore, eliminated Argentina and Portugal before beating Germany in the final.

Since then, the England national football team's World Cup campaign has never been perfect. The closest they have ever come to winning a second title was in 2018 when they lost to Croatia in the semifinals.

The Three Lions have never won the European Cup but came close at Euro 2020. They made it to the final but lost 3-4 to Italy on penalties after drawing 1-1 in extra time.

The Three Lions have never appeared in the Olympics independently considering they competed under the umbrella of Great Britain.

The Three Lions' performance has improved significantly in recent years. As a result, their rankings also got better. According to the FIFA rankings as of March 2022, the England team is in 5th place globally with 1761.71 points.

Their best ranking is 3rd in September 2021, with 1755.44 points. Meanwhile, the Three Lions' worst ranking was 27, with just 48 points in February 1996.
