Formula E Races Will Be Stopped If The Weather Is Extreme

JAKARTA — Event Director Formula E Operations (FEO) Gemma Roura Serra confirmed that the Formula E race in Jakarta would be stopped if it was disturbed by bad weather.

The Formula E race in Jakarta will be held on the nearest 4 June. However, the race, which was held for the first time in history in Indonesia, did not escape the threat of bad weather.

"If it rains so hard that you can't see it, the race will stop. However, if it rains normally, it's not a problem," said Gemma at a press conference on Sunday, May 29 yesterday.

Previously, the roof of the spectator stands at the Formula E circuit in Ancol, Pademangan, North Jakarta, was hit by a hurricane a few days ago.

The brunt of the wind made the roof of the tribune collapse. This incident did not take any lives, but immediately made a lot of social media and became the spotlight of a number of figures.

Gemma said that if extreme weather occurs on the D day of the race, then before the race is decided to stop, the officers will first see the condition of the field.

"The circuit itself is equipped with drainage and that causes the race track to dry up quickly. Only when the race director and marshal see that there is so much water will the race stop for safety reasons. If not, that's okay," he said.

Apart from ensuring the safety of the riders, the organizers will also be extra careful with the spectators if bad weather comes. Spectators will be directed to leave the grandstand if the situation is not favorable.

Until now, the organizers continue to monitor weather developments through the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) regarding the weather predictions for DKI Jakarta during the race later.

Although there is a possibility of heavy rain, the organizers previously confirmed that they would not use the services of a rain handler as happened at the Mandalika MotoGP race in March.
