Failed Podium At F1 Monaco Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc: Too Many Mistakes, I Used To Go Home Disappointed

JAKARTA - Ferrari's Charles Leclerc failed to get on the podium at the Monaco GP F1 race, at his home ground. He was disappointed because the team was judged to have made a strategic mistake.

Starting from pole position, Leclerc lost his race leadership position after deciding too early to change wet tires to intermediate, responding to Perez who went fast after first using the green banded tire.

Carlos Sainz refused Ferrari's orders to pit and decided to stay outside waiting for the track to dry. The decision proved to be the right one so Ferrari did a double stack to install dry hard tires on the Sainz and Leclerc cars which were forced to pit for the second time.

"Disappointing is not a word, sometimes mistakes can happen, but there were too many mistakes today," said Leclerc after the race, as quoted by Crash.

"In these conditions you depend a little bit on what the team can see. I've been asked if I want to switch from extreme wet to slick and I said 'yes, but not now, later in the race.'

"I don't understand what made us change our minds. We got the undercut and I stopped behind Carlos. I mean, there were a lot of mistakes. It was difficult, like previous years here, so I'm used to going home disappointed."

According to Leclerc things like this should not have happened. Especially at this time Ferrari was competing with Red Bull Racing.

He said, Ferrari in a strong position at this time. The opportunities that exist should be used, he continued.

"It's not even first to second, first to fourth, because after the first mistake we made...(there were) others," said Leclerc.

"I love my team and I'm sure we will come back stronger, but it hurts a lot."

Leclerc said, Ferrari's decision to call him into the pits earlier was judged to be very wrong. That's when the chaos started.

"I don't know if this is panic. The last message I received was unclear, because I was told to stay on the track, even though I was already in the pit lane," he explained.

"And that's where I basically got it all on the radio and screamed, because I knew I was done."
