JAKARTA - Vietnam's 31st SEA Games officially ended on Monday, followed by the symbolic handover of the SEA Games Federation flag to Cambodia as the host of the Southeast Asian inter-state sporting event in 2023.

Vietnam Olympic Committee Chairman Nguyen Van Hung hands over the SEA Games Federation flag to Cambodian Olympic Committee Chairman Khon Thong during the closing ceremony of the 31st SEA Games at the Vietnam Asian Indoor Game, Hanoi, Vietnam, Monday.

The handover of the flag was preceded by the lowering of the flag of the SEA Games Federation, which was then followed by a representative of the Vietnamese athletes who brought the flag with the 11 rings to the Chairman of the Vietnam Olympic Committee, Nguyen Van Hung.

The program continued with the singing of the Cambodian national anthem "Nokor Reach."

"The SEA Games are a bridge of friendship to overcome common challenges, where the host can promote his country, which will be held in a beautiful and culturally rich country, Cambodia," said the host, quoted by Antara.

Vietnam sent its dearest and warmest farewell to all participants in the closing ceremony of the 90-minute Hanoi Vietnam SEA Games.

If the opening ceremony featured mass performances and spectacular visual effects, the closing would be a more comfortable and friendly event with the motto “come together to shine”.

The athletes have gone through many competitions and demonstrated their talents and abilities, so the closing ceremony will be a moment for everyone to honor and appreciate them, as well as to promote sportsmanship.

An indoor 580 meter long LED screen was installed for the event and there is a 611 square meter main stage in the center. There are also two stages on the side covering an area of 315 square meters to create the best sound and light effects.

There was also a musical performance featuring Vietnamese folk songs “quan ho” , “Moi trau” , “Gia ban”, and “Nguoi oi nguoi o dung ve.” Famous contemporary singers such as Uyen Linh, Van Mai uong, and Duong Hoang Yen appeared on stage to celebrate the closing ceremony.
