The Indonesian National Team Qualifies For The 2021 Sea Games Semifinals, Shin Tae-yong Ranks Best In The World Cup

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team coach, Shin Tae-yong could not hide his excitement after bringing his team through to the 2021 SEA Games semifinals. He said that he had felt happy at the 2018 World Cup.

The U-23 Indonesian national team qualified for the semifinals with runner-up status after winning 3-1 over Myanmar in Group A of the 2021 SEA Games, Sunday, May 15. The joy he felt after the victory over Myanmar was the same as when he led the South Korean national team to beat Germany at the 2018 World Cup.

"As a coach I always try to help the team play well in every game, no matter what tournament," said Shin Tae Yong as quoted by Zing News.

"When I led South Korea to beat Germany at the 2018 World Cup, I have the best memory of my life, because I knew I would never experience that moment again in my life."

"But today with the victory that brought Indonesia to the semifinals of the 2021 SEA Games, I feel the same joy (as in the World Cup)," said Shin Tae Yong proudly.

Regarding the success of the U-23 national team defeating Myanmar, Shin Tae-yong said that it could not be separated from the slick performance of his foster children. Marc Klok and his friends were able to carry out a perfectly prepared strategy.

“Before the match I knew Indonesia only needed a draw to reach the semifinals. But I still told the players that it was a difficult match, so I prepared a scenario of a high-pressing game and they did well," said Shin Tae-yong.

After confirming a place in the semifinals, the U-23 national team is now waiting for their opponent, namely the winner of group B. Currently, Malaysia leads the standings with seven points, one point ahead of Thailand who is in second place.
