Aleix Rins' Motorbike Caught Fire On The Track, FP4 MotoGP Mandalika 2022 Was Forced To Stop Temporarily

JAKARTA - The incident on Suzuki's motorcycle, Aleix Rins, which caught fire while undergoing a free practice session (FP4), caused one of the Mandalika 2022 MotoGP agenda series to be stopped.

The Suzuki GSX-RR motorcycle that Rins was riding caught fire when FP4 had 23 minutes and 32 seconds left of the scheduled 30 minutes. The moment Rins' motorbike caught fire when the Spaniard entered Turn 10.

The moment was shared directly by the official MotoGP account on Twitter. In the upload, fire appears from the bottom of Rins' motorcycle engine. Not long after, the fire started to grow bigger and more visible.

“Session marked red! Not the Indonesian heat @Rins42 that was expected but the track conditions need to be assessed at Turn 13," wrote the account accompanying the moment that was uploaded, Saturday, March 19.

At first Rins did not realize that his motorbike was on fire. The racer number 42 was trying to see what happened to his motorbike because it couldn't be driven.

After realizing that his motorbike was on fire, Rins then jumped from his motorbike to save himself at corner 13 of the Mandalika Circuit. A number of marshals then came and tried to put out the fire.

The incident made Race Direction MotoGP decided to raise the red flag. The FP4 session was then stopped and FIM Safety checked the condition of the track before the FP4 session could be held again.

"Take a break for the checking process because the fuel from @Rins42 Suzuki needs to be cleaned!" continued the @MotoGP account connection tweet.
