JAKARTA - Bayern Munich's interim head coach Hansi Flick hopes that Jerome Boateng will stay at the Allianz Arena. The defender has often been linked with Arsenal.

The 31-year-old defender has played for Munich since joining from Manchester City in 2011. At the Bavarian club, Ghanaian-blooded players are always the first choice.

However, in the 2015-2016 season, Boateng experienced fitness problems. Since then, he has never played more than 20 games in a season.

Boateng has played 17 league games this season and Bayern are continuing their search for younger players to replace the veteran defender.

With the serious interest of Arsenal, who need an experienced defender to strengthen their back line, Boateng is said to be leaving FC Hollywood soon. However, Flick insists his players will stay.

"Jerome is a Bayern Munich player and I'm not going to concern myself with any rumors. That's what I did last season," Flick told reporters. Launch Soccerway, Monday, January 6.

"Jerome is back training with a good absorption, he prepared himself during the holidays. So, I wonder what will happen next week," continued the coach.

But, Flick explained, he would not burden himself with these rumors. Because his players didn't say anything about his planned departure.

"We have to see how these things develop, but at the moment I can't imagine it (Boateng leaving)," he concluded.

Bayern are on a mid-season break and will not return to competitive action until January 19 when they visit Hertha Berlin. The reigning champions of the Bundesliga are third in the standings behind leaders Borussia Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig.
