FIFA And PSSI Will Review Stadium Readiness In Surabaya For The U-20 World Cup

JAKARTA - The International Football Federation (FIFA) and the All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) will check the readiness of the venue or location to be used for the U-20 World Cup, especially Surabaya, East Java on March 9.

"God willing, if there are no problems, the check will be carried out on March 9," said Head of the Surabaya Culture, Youth, and Sports and Tourism (DKKORP) Wiwiek Widayati in Surabaya, Saturday.

According to him, the check was carried out to prepare all supporting facilities ahead of the implementation of the U-20 World Cup in 2023. In fact, he continued, his party had made a list of what had been prepared in the previous year.

Surabaya is one of the cities that represents Indonesia as the host of the 2021 FIFA World Cup U-20, which was decided at the FIFA Council Meeting in Shanghai, China on October 24, 2019. In addition, there are Solo, Bali and Jakarta.

However, the prestigious event which was supposed to be held in 2021, was forced to postpone due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the Surabaya City Government continues to check regularly to welcome the U-20 World Cup match.

Wiwiek said that there were three supporting fields for the main venue for the U-20 World Cup according to FIFA requirements, namely the Gelora 10 November Stadium, Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT), and Thor Field.
