JAKARTA – Ticket sales for the Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix at the Mandalika Circuit have touched 22 thousand. That number is still far from the target audience of 63 thousand people.
The Mandalika Grand Prix will take place from 18 to 20 March. The race on the Indonesian pride circuit is the second series this season after the inaugural series in Qatar on March 6 later.
"Ticket sales so far are at 22,300, while our total target is around 63,000. In the last few days, public interest has indeed been increasing," said InJourney Marketing Director Maya Watono in a statement received.
The sales amount includes tickets purchased by a certain racer's fan base. So far, at least two fan bases have bought tickets to the grandstand.
The fan base that purchases tickets through this route has the goal of having the opportunity to get official merchandise from the idolized racer.
"As an example. We get commitment from Marc Marquez's fan base. It's the same with Maverick Vinales, where fans can get giveaways such as t-shirts, jackets and hats signed by Vinales," said Watono.
So far, the tickets sold for are the third day or race day tickets. This enthusiasm allows tickets for the third day to be sold out in the near future.
Watono said that this did not mean that the tickets for the first day of free practice and qualifying on the second day were not sold out. He believes that the tickets for the first two days will sell well in the next few days.
"We also still have expectations for ticket sales for the first and second days, because the series of events for these three days are very interesting, not only on race day," he said.
Ticket sales are divided into five classes, namely Premier Class (900 tickets), Deluxe Class (2,000), Festival General Admission (10,000, Standard Grandstand (28,578) and Premium Grandstand (22,056).
Initially, the Mandalika Grand Prix targeted to be able to bring in 100 thousand spectators. However, the number was cut by President Joko Widodo as an effort to prevent COVID-19 even though the number of cases in West Nusa Tenggara experienced a significant decline.
