JAKARTA - Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali stated that his party is continuing to finalize Indonesia's preparations to host the 2022 ASEAN Para Games which will be held in Solo, Central Java, next July.

During a leadership meeting with the Indonesian Paralympic Committee (NPC), Zainudin said there were several things that needed to be prepared, starting from the preparation of venues, accommodation, and transportation.

"Because we are the hosts, we will definitely discuss the readiness of the infrastructure. We will take an inventory of which ones have major renovations and which ones are minor," said the Minister of Youth and Sports as quoted by Antara.

"Then also about accommodation, transportation and so on which are the responsibility of the central government, but the executor in the field as the chairman of the committee is the mayor of Surakarta," said Zainudin, quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Wednesday.

Zainudin admitted that the preparation time for the ASEAN Para Games was relatively short, only five months. But he made sure that the government was serious about preparing everything.

"We will coordinate with other ministries. I have reported to the Minister of State Secretary, Minister of Finance, God willing, all of them support it," he said.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of NPC Indonesia Rima Ferdianto said that there were several issues discussed in the meeting with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, one of which was the major renovation of the swimming pool venue.

"Some of the venues do not require renovation, some require major renovations and some require minor renovations," he said.

“There was a major renovation, namely the swimming venue due to the replacement of the floor and the depth of the pool. Currently it is only 1.35 m deep, 2.20 m deep, the minimum for international standards is at least 2.5 m," he added.

Indonesia was officially designated as the host of the 2022 ASEAN Para Games as stated in a decree issued by the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) on January 14 last.

Indonesia replaces Vietnam which has declared its withdrawal from hosting the ASEAN Para Games and will only hold the SEA Games in May.

The 11th edition of the ASEAN Para Games is scheduled to be held on 20-31 July not only in the city of Solo, but also in the surrounding areas.

This is the second opportunity for Indonesia to hold the ASEAN Para Games since 2011 when the event was also held in Solo.
