Viral Moments Haru Athletic Bilbao Players Compact Haircut Shows Solidarity For Yeray Alvarez, Who Suffers From Cancer

JAKARTA - A short video showing the emotional moment of Athletic Bilbao's players has gone viral on social media again. The video shows the solidarity of the players and club staff who are willing to shave their hair off as a form of solidarity.

Quoted from the Daily Star, Saturday, February 19, the haircut was carried out by all Bilbao players and staff to support their colleague, Yeray Alvarez, who has cancer.

Yeray was diagnosed with testicular cancer in December 2016. Before being diagnosed with cancer, Yeray had actually just entered the Bilbao first team and was eyeing the possibility of an international call-up.

But news about his health made the Spanish defender have to postpone all plans to undergo surgery. A month after the first operation, Yeray is doing well. But follow-up tests in June found further cancer abnormalities.

This situation again forced Yeray to undergo chemotherapy for a long time until in 2017 he was declared cured. However, the effects of chemotherapy made her hair fall out and become bald.

After recovering, Yeray seemed to visit his teammates. But how surprised he was when he entered the Bilbao dressing room and saw the players compactly appear with the same bald hair as him.

In the video that went viral, Yeray looked utterly lost for words as Bilbao vice-captain Markel Susaeta approached him to explain things. The atmosphere became even more emotional when the whole squad, where Kepa Arrizabalaga and Aymeric Laporte were also seen, began to approach and shout his name.

"For anyone wondering, he's beaten cancer twice now, he's still playing week after week for Bilbao and he got a seven-year contract three years ago. What a warrior," commented a netizen on the video showing Yeray's moment with other Bilbao players.

Apart from that touching moment, Yeray himself has been declared completely cured of cancer. He resumed his career as a footballer in the Bilbao senior team in February 2018 and has now become a regular in the team.
