Destroyed Venezuela 4-1, Uruguay To 4th Position In The 2022 World Cup Qualification Standings Conmebol Zone

JAKARTA - Uruguay crushed Venezuela with a score of 4-1 in the Conmebol (South America) World Cup Qualification match at the Centenario Stadium, Uruguay on Wednesday morning.

Quoted from Antara, Uruguay's four goals were each scored by Rodrigo Bentacur, Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez. Meanwhile, Venezuela's consolation goal was scored by Josef Martinez.

This victory brought Uruguay to fourth in the standings, with 22 points. While Venezuela remains caretaker in tenth position with 10 points from 16 matches.

Uruguay scored quickly when the game has been running for one minute. Rodrigo Bentacur's hard kick from outside the penalty box surprised goalkeeper Wuilker Farinez who couldn't prevent his goal from conceding. The score became 1-0.

The home team doubled their lead in the 23rd minute. The team's game scheme was well completed by De Arrascaera with a kick into the bottom right corner after receiving an assist from Facundo Pellistri. Venezuela trailed 0-2.

Towards the end of the first half, Uruguay scored their third goal through Edinson Cavani's acrobatic shot after receiving De Arrascaeta's cross. The score of 3-0 closed the first half.

Venezuela was awarded a penalty kick in the 47th minute after Ferraresi fouled Pellistri. Luis Suarez stepped up as the executor, but Farinez was able to guess the direction of Suarez's kick.

However, the penalty had to be replayed after VAR footage showed that two Venezuelan players had entered the box before Suarez kicked the ball.

A re-kick was taken and this time Suarez was able to put Uruguay 4-0 up in the 53rd minute.

In the 60th minute, Cavani scored after utilizing Federico Valverde's through ball. However, the referee disallowed the goal because the MU striker was already in an offside position.

Four minutes later, Venezuela scored in the 64th minute. Uruguay defender Gimenez lost the ball to Josesf Martinez before firing a shot from the right side of the box which Rochet couldn't stop. The position becomes 4-1.

Uruguay continued to press Venezuela to score their fifth goal, but two attempts from Luis Suarez and De Arrascaeta were still saved by Farinez.

Vanezuela tried to score a second goal in the 92nd minute. However, Junior Morena's kick from outside the penalty box still bounced high from the Rochet goal.

Uruguay's 4-1 advantage lasted until the referee ended the match.
