Ministry of Youth and Sports Consistently Prioritizes Paris Olympics 2024

JAKARTA – The Minister of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), Zainudin Amali, is consistent in prioritizing the 2024 Paris Olympics. This means that the events throughout this year are only intermediate targets.

This consistency was shown by Amali when he received the General Chair of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI), Raja Sapta Oktohari, and his staff at the Kemenpora Office on Monday, January 24.

He wants Indonesia's participation in the SEA Games and this year's Asian Games to prioritize sports in the Great Design of National Sports (DBON). It aims to prepare athletes to go to the 2024 Paris Olympics later.

"Whatever race you take part in, apart from the Olympics being an intermediate goal, everyone must focus on the Paris 2024 (Olympics)", Amali said in a statement received by VOI.

The General Chair of the KOI was present to report on various overseas events that Indonesia will participate in this year and the results of his party's work meeting held some time ago.

In addition to the Hanoi SEA Games and the Hangzhou Asian Games, Indonesia will also face several important agendas. These include the Asian Youth Games Shantou China, Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games Thailand, and the Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkey.

“There should also be special emphasis on the SEA Games and the Asian Games for sporting achievements. It could be that the country's ranking is not optimal, but there are sports achievements to become the overall champion, for example, it can be a measure of success", said Amali.

Ministry of Youth and Sports plans not to send as many contingents to the SEA Games and Asian Games as they did before. The athletes who are sent are those who can be sure to achieve achievements.

In these two events, the government did not set a ranking target for medals but could become the overall champion for certain sports. This is in line with the paradigm shift in looking at achievements in Presidential Decree 86 of 2021 regarding DBON.
